Greetings from the Honourable Shaye Anderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs
2019 Rural Education Symposium "Schools and Communities - Partners in Action" March 3, 2019
As Alberta's Minister of Municipal Affairs, I am pleased to bring greetings to the 2019 Alberta Rural Education Symposium.
Bringing people together from across the province to find common ground is an important cause. Not only will it benefit classrooms and teachers today, but it will also ensure a bright future for all Albertans.
And no matter where it is you call home - whether it's the smallest of summer villages, or the largest of municipal districts - we all live in municipalities. Those municipalities need healthy schools to be successful. But that doesn't happen on its own.
As communities plan for their future, school sites will be a part of those plans. Recent amendments to the Municipal Government Act and the School Act will make sure of that through mandatory joint use agreements between municipalities and school boards.
And ongoing support to the province's library network means education and social supports will extend beyond the walls of those schools to anyone with a library card.
I look forward to a successful conference and to the ongoing success of Alberta's education community.
Hon. Shaye Anderson
Minister of Municipal Affairs
